Gauteng schools beef up security to avert kidnappings

JOHANNESBURG - Kidnapping is on the up and so is the number of children being targeted.

Outside school premises seem to be an easy target for criminals who kidnap children for ransom.

The number of kidnappings in Gauteng is shockingly high.

Crime stats for the last three months of 2023 show a sharp 20 percent increase.

And now there’s a bigger concern around children being targeted at schools, especially outside its premises.

The Gauteng Education Department has identified the most at-risk schools to improve security measures.
