Suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Major-General Feroz Khan’s medical privacy is under scrutiny at the Madlanga Commission. Advocate Adila Hassim says his right to privacy is not absolute, while the inquiry considers an independent medical examination with Khan’s consent.
The Madlanga Commission is preparing for a recess from 3 September before hearings resume on 14 September. Its final report is due on 16 November 2026, with spokesperson Jeremy Michaels saying months of intensive hearings and preparation have placed the inquiry on a tight schedule.
Alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi is back in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court for a fourth bail bid. He faces perjury, defeating the ends of justice and unlawful firearm-possession charges, while the State alleges he planned to escape custody disguised as a Correctional Services official.

More than 20,000 KwaZulu-Natal SASSA beneficiaries have not migrated to Postbank Black Cards after the Gold Card deadline. eThekwini has the province’s largest outstanding group. Nationally, more than 1.8 million beneficiaries have switched, surpassing 80% of the target.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Leonard Lekgetho as permanent head of the Special Investigating Unit. Lekgetho, who has spent 19 years at the SIU, had been acting in the position since February. The Presidency says the appointment will provide stability as the unit fights crime and corruption.

Eskom’s annual profit more than doubled to R30.3-billion for the year ended March 2026, from R14-billion previously. Better power-station performance and lower emergency diesel costs strengthened cash reserves, despite declining electricity sales. Eskom says the result creates more room for renewable-energy and grid investment.

Pitso Mosimane is back as Bafana Bafana head coach for a second permanent stint following Hugo Broos’s departure. Mosimane previously led the national team from 2010 to 2012 and served as caretaker coach in 2007. He says he accepts the challenge with pride, determination and humility.
