One dead, five injured in NYC subway shooting

NEW YORK - There's been yet another mass shooting in the US.

This time, one person was killed and five others injured at a New York subway station just before rush hour.

Authorities believe the shooting stems from a dispute between two groups on the train.

It follows a shooting in Houston, Texas on Sunday during a service at celebrity pastor Joel Osteen's church.

Mass shootings are common in the US, studies have found there are more guns than people in the country.

Polls also show a majority of Americans favour stricter gun regulations.

But the powerful gun lobby has repeatedly stymied lawmakers from taking action.

Democrats have been calling for a ban on assault rifles after numerous mass shootings.
