Dates to know before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry begins

JOHANNESBURG - An explosive press briefing in July has sent shock waves across the justice system.

KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi accused government officials and high-ranking SAPS officials of corruption.

A commission into the accusations has been established under a cloud of controversy as more members of the justice cluster are implicated.

eNCA reporters Dasen Thathiah, Silindelo Masikane, and Pule Letshwiti-Jones discussed the events leading up to the first witness taking the stand next week.

Mkwanazi will be the first witness to take the stand when the commission of inquiry begins on Wednesday, 17 September.

The proceedings will take place in Pretoria.

Initially, the proceedings were meant to begin on 1 September, but procurement issues for IT systems and infrastructure caused the postponement of the hearings.

Two senior executives have since been suspended.

Chief evidence leader, Dr Peter Goss, said witness protection is a top priority for the commission.
